Writing a coding problem for your contest or exam

Updated Oct 23, 2026

A coding problem on Progsity is a statement, tests and your own solution. The judge checks every contestant's answer against your tests.

Steps

  1. In your dashboard, press Create and choose Coding problem.
  2. Write the statement: the story, the input format, the output format and the constraints. Preview shows exactly what a student will see.
  3. Add tests by hand, or import a .zip. Mark a test as visible to show it in the statement as a sample; every other test stays hidden and is only ever reported as passed or failed.
  4. Add your main solution. It must pass every test before the problem can go into a contest or an exam. You can add other solutions too, such as a slow one that should time out, to prove your limits and tests.
  5. Set the visibility.

Visibility

  • Private: only you and your problem's team can open it.
  • Exam only: it can go into your contest or exam, and never appears on the public practice list.
  • Public, on the Judge's practice list, is decided by Progsity and is not offered in the form.

Good to know

  • You can invite co-authors to the problem's team, as an Editor or a Tester. A Tester adds other solutions but cannot change the main one.
  • On the free plan you have 30 solution runs a month; each run of one solution over all the tests counts as one.
  • Want your problem in a Progsity round? Use Offer to round, described on the Set a problem page.
