Secure exams: fullscreen, tab switches and a paused exam
Updated Oct 23, 2026
A teacher can set an exam to record what happens during it. The start screen tells you what this exam records before you begin.
Fullscreen
Some exams run in fullscreen. If you leave it, the exam asks you to press Enter Fullscreen to continue, and leaving is recorded for your teacher. If nothing happens when you press it, press it again: your browser may have blocked the first request. On an iPhone, where Safari cannot put a page in fullscreen, the exam does not ask.
Switching tabs or windows
Leaving the exam window, for another tab or another app, is recorded with the time, and you see a warning with a count such as Warnings: 1/3. Reloading the page is not counted as leaving.
A paused exam
If the warnings pass the limit your teacher set, the exam pauses and waits for your teacher. You cannot answer while it is paused. When your teacher releases it, the exam continues by itself within seconds, with no reload, and your warning count starts fresh. If the time runs out while it is paused, it is marked on the answers you saved before the pause.
Your timer may be extended or your exam ended by an invigilator; the page tells you if that happens.
If you think a decision is wrong
A record alone decides nothing; your teacher reads it. If your result shows an integrity decision, press Appeal this on the result page and explain. The appeal goes to your teacher with the evidence. Your teacher, not the Progsity support team, decides on your marks.
